Rev. John Andrew "Andy" Young
June 4, 1950 - September 19, 2022

IRON STATION, N.C. - Rev. John Andrew “Andy” Young, 72, of Iron Station, went to Heaven on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Atrium Health-Lincoln.

He was born June 4, 1950 in Clay County, W.Va. to the late John Young and to Joanna Priddy Neal of Valley Fork, W.Va. Andy was a licensed ordained pastor with the Church of God. He pastored various churches throughout West Virginia during his 14 years of ministry. Andy recently attended New Life Fellowship Church in Hickory. He was a United States Army veteran serving in the 173rd Airborne Brigade and two tours in Vietnam, and was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroic service. Andy spent several decades as a driver trainer with Superior Carriers Trucking Company where he earned the million mile safe driver award. He loved to fly and was a licensed pilot. During his recent retirement, Andy enjoyed traveling in his RV with his dogs and the love of his life, Melissa.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Young.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years Melissa Shrewsbury Young of the home; son Rev. Tommy Young and wife Angela of Hickory; daughter Lisa Young of Charlotte; mother Joanna Priddy Neal of Fremont, Ohio; sister Margaret Young of Fremont, Ohio; grandchildren Ben Thyer, Max Thyer, Noah Young, Abby Young, and Jay Young; and great-granddaughters Emma Young and Anna Young.

A service to celebrate Andy’s life will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Tommy Young will officiate. A private burial with military honors by Am Vets Post 76 will be held at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.
