“Make it happen!” she added, encouraging her fellow artists. “I’m a facilitator; I don’t own the event. The community does. Businesses that plan to participate are welcome to send me a message, and I’ll create a list online to make it easier for artists to find a home for their work that night. It's up to you! Go!”
Bostian explained that after the arts council announced the cancellation of its event, a number of artists and business-owners reached out to her, asking her to take charge and save the art crawl.
“Lincoln County has a wealth of talented artists,” she observed. “Our community must take advantage of every opportunity to promote and support those precious assets! Why not do that while promoting a healthy economy in our charming downtown Lincolnton?
“This is a community effort, not associated with or organized by any particular business or organization,” she continued with emphasis. “Participating locations will display the letters ‘RAW,’ and their doors will be open!”
Citing the North Carolina Arts Council, Bostian also talked about arts-driven economic development.
“One broad definition is that these are communities that use their arts and cultural assets to revitalize neighborhoods and downtowns,” she said, “instill a strong sense of place and pride in residents, attract creative workers and cultural travelers and create sustainable economic development.”
Bostian has also created a Facebook page in order to help publicize RAW.
“I have created the page in order to facilitate this event,” she said. “As an artist, business-owner, educator, parent and resident in Lincoln County, these efforts have great meaning to me and to my many artist friends. Thanks for your support of our endeavor!”
And if you’re an artist with questions or simply a fan of the arts, planning to attend with your family, Bostian encourages you to e-mail her at lb@personalartist.com.
