PBML First Friday With A Local Author Community members are invited to the library to meet a local author every month at noon on the first Fridays of each month. Local authors will share information about themselves, explain their path to getting their work(s) published, read aloud excerpts, and answer questions. You are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat during this program. On Friday, December 7 at 12 p.m., we will meet Hickory resident Kermit Turner. Turner holds degrees from Lenoir-Rhyne College, University of Arkansas, and UNC-Greensboro. His short stories have been published in Roanoke Review, Greensboro Review, Phylon, Pembroke Magazine, NC Crossroads, Thomas Wolfe Review and Changes Magazine. He has won the North Carolina Humanities Council Linda Flowers Literary Award, was a runner-up of the Thomas Wolfe Fiction Prize, and was listed in Best American Short Stories as one of the Distinguished Stories of the year. Copies of his novel Funland, short-story collections, and poetry will be available to purchase. This First Friday with a Local Author program is free and open to the public.
