Today in History in 1910 Julia Ward Howe, composer of the Battle Hymn of Republic died at age 91; in 1931 Al Capone was convicted of tax evasion and was sentenced to 11 years in prison;  and in 1958 country singer Alan Jackson was born in Newman, Georgia.
