Today in History author Jonathan Swift (Gulliver’s Travels) was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1668; Samuel Clemens “Mark Twain” (Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn) was born in 1835 in Florida, Missouri; and in 1874 Lucy Maud Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables) was born in Clifton, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
