Beauty stirs the heart, soothes the soul, and moves the mind. Beauty wraps itself around something, encapsulates a moment, and creates an indelible memory. It presents itself in the most inoculate way, yet proceeds to reach beyond the tangible and into the intangible in order to make its point. The mark that it leaves is one of deep appreciation and a powerful reminder of all the things, people, and places that we tend to take for granted on a daily basis.
Something beautiful is what reaches down from heaven and up from the earth. It is in the air we breathe and the tastes we enjoy. Smells that remind us of home, of simpler days, and of friend-filled evenings. Laughter that bounces off of the walls and ceiling of our apartments, houses, or cabins – whatever and wherever we call home. In those sacred moments with trusted friends and family, we sense that we are in the presence of something beautiful.
We may not be able to put our finger on it or even call it by name, but we each know that it is as real as the ground we walk on. It is tangible, even in its undefinable state. As part of the lifeblood of existence – that energy that ancients called ether – it is connected with and gives structure to that which we call wonderful moments: the birth of a child, the change of a heart, the smile on a face, and the smell of a rose. It is laughter in the face of adversity, a diehard attitude, an unquenchable spirit, fire in the eyes, and resolute determination. It’s when a decision has been made and when winners commit.
The beauty is there – all around us – waiting to be seen, to be appreciated, and to be participated in. Seeing that beauty and realizing what it is will give you immense power in that moment. If you’re feeling blue or having an awful day, take a moment to see something beautiful, to allow it to become part of your life, and to allow yourself to be a part of it. When you do, your attitude, your outlook, and your heart song will all change for the better. A peace will wash over you, and you’ll be reminded of the great good that exists all around. Change glasses, and see with perfection. The beauty is there. You just have to see it.
