Christmas Trees

Judge Rembert
Guest Columnist

She always took the Christmas tree serious...
Little girl put up Aunt Es's tree yearly...
Little girl always helped put up Grandma' tree...
Little girl always helped with family tree...

Big girl put up many trees...
She thought she put up trees for others...
This year she had no children...
This year she had no partner...
This year she had no tree...
No wreath on the door...
No snowmen and lights...
In her new condo there was nothing...
Nothing of Christmas...

Rock Fitness - New Design

She was in her bed...
Thinking about Christmas...
Thinking about being alone...
She was thinking about the past...
Past Christmas trees...
Then she had a clear vision...
Popped unto her head...
Who really enjoyed the Christmas trees...
Who got excited...
Excited about the Christmas trees...
Of course it was her...
It was “Her” she put the trees up for...

At 3 a.m. she hopped out of the bed...
She got the hammer out...
Up went the window...
Three bangs drove the nail in...
The wreath was hung outside...
That was a start...

Well 22 years later...
22 Christmas trees later...
She is still without a partner...
Christmas will soon be here...
There will be a beautiful tree in her window...
Lights will be glowing...
All that pass will see it...

Christmas is not what is under the tree...
Christmas is not how big the tree is...
Christmas is Jesus' birthday first...
Christmas should be a day celebrated every day...

If Christmas day is the only day you give...
You are missing out on much joy...
If Christmas is not shared daily...
You have forgotten to bring love...
Love into your life...

It is up to all of us to share...
Share 365 days a year...
It is up to each of us to care...
Care 365 days a year...
To look for the good in people...
To look inside ourselves...
To put the Christmas tree up...
For ourselves first...
And then for others...
Cause we count too...
Christmas lives in each of us...

---More About Judge Rembert: WWII made Judge an only child when her half-brother was killed in the war. She lived in a tiny town in South Carolina until she was eight and her Mother went to work. She was sent to a boarding school in Belmont, N.C. From that time on she has lived back and forth in the two Carolinas. They are both home. She was born dyslexic and did not know what the problem was or that it had a name until she was about 45. She was unable to spell so she never put words on paper until she was 65 and had a computer with spell check. She comes from a long line of story tellers and a Mother that taught her much by telling stories. Stories about people and how they faced life and how they dealt with problems. If you read what she writes you may hear her Mother and her Grandmother talking to her. She is thrilled to know that anyone reads her words and finds them interesting. Oh, she is 75 now and she now makes her home in Aiken, S.C. If you like Judge’s writings or would like to comment on them let her know by emailing judgerembert@bellsouth.net.
