Because of struggles, you are made stronger. Because of changes, you have new opportunities. And, because of uncertainties, you have the chance to exercise your faith, your hope, and your beliefs that much more. Just think: as you survive life’s challenges and thrive because of them, you become a living testimony of the certainty of enduring hope.
Think boldly, live boldly, and speak boldly. As you do, your attitude will improve. As your attitude changes, chemicals in your mind will redirect your future thoughts and energy in a direction that is productive and positive – changing your destiny for the good.
A while back, I was working on a project at home and hit a mental wall. I stopped, put down the tools, and walked back in the house.
My wife looked at me and asked, “Is everything okay?”
“No,” I replied. “I’m done.”
“Done?” she said, confused.
“I can’t figure out how to do it. And I think I did part of it wrong, so I might have to redo half of my work. I quit.”
She said, “So, you’re just gonna give up? Quit, just like that?”
“Okay. Then, stop for now, and do something else for a while. Tomorrow it will make sense, when you look at it with fresh eyes.”
“You’re right. I’m tired and just need a break.”
For the rest of that evening, we did other things. I didn’t think about the project in the yard, any more. The next day, I went back outside to pick up where I left off. Looking at the situation with a different attitude, I realized what I needed to do to finish the project. Sure enough, a couple hours later, it was done.
Hope, attitude, and perspective: I was reminded that those words are real things. They determine the outcome of a lot of things in our lives. They can even make or break our days. How we feel about certain things can be traced directly back to our levels of hope and expected outcomes.
My wife issued me an indirect challenge, when she asked, “So, you’re just gonna give up?” I took that for what it was – an opportunity to readjust my perspective on the temporary situation and to rise to the occasion. It worked, because I realized that things would be different, the next day.
Hope is a deep well. So, if you need it right now, lower your mental and emotional buckets down into that well and drink deeply from its cool waters.
