Shaping Today

Marty Reep, Author
Speaker, Forward-Thinker

If you put your energy in lots of different directions, you’ll feel scattered and torn.  But, if you put your energy in a focused direction, today, you’ll see much more progress where you want to grow.  You’ll feel more centered, more together, and at the top of your game.

When your mind has too many things to focus on, it doesn’t know which one is most important, so it tries to do all of them at once.  That causes stress and an overwhelming feeling in you.  Don’t worry, though.  There are some simple things you can do to make sure you shape your day the way it needs to be shaped.

Today, before you just dive right into everything your brain is telling you has to get done, stop and think about it.  At the end of today, what is the most important thing that you really, absolutely, positively have to do?  Is there anything?  One thing.

Once you’ve established what that most important thing is, think about all of the other bits and pieces that your mind is throwing at you.  How many of those are essential?  Maybe a couple, or maybe none.  Eliminate the non-essential things.  Now, how many essential or pseudo-essential things are there, that keep wanting to get your attention?  Okay, set them aside, for now.

Focus on that one, most important thing.  If it is doable, today, then get to it!  If it’s not doable, today, then what part of it can you do?  Think of it in terms of sections, parts, or pieces.  Work on the sections of it that you can accomplish today, and devise a plan for getting the other sections done this week.

Hopefully, your mind is starting to relax a bit, at this point.  Take a deep breath, and dive in.  As you work throughout each of the glorious minutes of life, today, remember how you want today to be.  Remember the shape, the feel, and the overall sense of what you’re after.  Live it, and enjoy it!

Step-by-step, you are living out the intentions of your mind, your heart, and your soul.  If you’re after peace, then listen to that deep inner voice that’s talking to you every day.  It will steer your course well.  If you start to doubt during today, go back and remember your purpose in life.  It’s right there, waiting to be remembered.

Sure, things will jump in your way or try to make you feel unsettled.  But, if you’ll stick to it, you will make it to your destination – you will make it to the end of today.    As you shape your day through your actions, energy, faith, and purpose, you will sense a great feeling of accomplishment in knowing you made it to and made it through.

I hope you’ll shape each day this week, work the best you can with them, and leave the results to God.  May you smile all along the way!
