Plant A Good Seed

Judge Rembert
Guest Columnist

She was raised in the South...
Her Grandma was raised in the South...
Her Mama was raised in the South...
Planting seeds is an art...
An art practiced in the South...

Now you can plant seeds in a pot...
You can plant seeds in a garden...
You can plant seeds in a head...
You can plant seeds in a heart...

1 - Court Street Grill 300

Her Grandma was a past Master...
Sometimes you could hear her plant a seed...
Sometimes you got the seed...
Got it and did not know it...
Later you found out...
When it was full grown...
Grown and living in you...

Grandma taught her Mama well...
Her Mama planted little seeds in her head...
Planted years ago...
Now she is grown and they have too...
Little seeds are big trees now...
Big trees that she holds on to sometimes...
Sometimes when the winds blow...
Blow in her life...

Some of the trees grew silently...
She did not know they were there...
But as she aged she realized...
Realized her Mama was smart...
Smart enough to know that someday...
After Mama was gone...
Those trees big and strong would be needed...

She is old herself now...
She can still hear Grandma and Mama...
They would often say...
“Well that seed will grow”
They knew exactly what they were doing..,
Mama knew the winds would blow...

I guess everyone does it...
But maybe we should think...
Think when we are around youngsters...
What sort of seeds are we planting...
What sort of trees will grow...
She is a Great grandma now...
She hopes she will plant good seeds...
Seeds that will grow into trees...
Strong trees...
Trees that will help later...
Not trees that will fall over...

We all need good trees...
Trees from seeds planted with love...

More About Judge Rembert: WWII made Judge an only child when her half-brother was killed in the war. She lived in a tiny town in South Carolina until she was eight and her Mother went to work. She was sent to a boarding school in Belmont, N.C. From that time on she has lived back and forth in the two Carolinas. They are both home. She was born dyslexic and did not know what the problem was or that it had a name until she was about 45. She was unable to spell so she never put words on paper until she was 65 and had a computer with spell check. She comes from a long line of story tellers and a Mother that taught her much by telling stories. Stories about people and how they faced life and how they dealt with problems. If you read what she writes you may hear her Mother and her Grandmother talking to her. She is thrilled to know that anyone reads her words and finds them interesting. Oh, she is 75 now and she now makes her home in Aiken, S.C. If you like Judge’s writings or would like to comment on them let her know by emailing judgerembert@bellsouth.net.
