Where Did It Go
Written April 24, 2022

Judge Rembert
Guest Columnist

She is 80 years old...
Her great-grandchild is 11-years-old...
They both live in the same city...
In the same state...
But not the same country...

She has lived in America for 80 years...
Grandchild has lived in America for 11 years...
But the country has changed so much...
So much change...
She wonders when they will change the name...
What will the new name be...
Will it even be English...

How did this happen...
Why did people allow this to happen...
Funny thing but nice people are often too silent...
Silent people waiting for the other people...
The other people to stand up and scream...
Silent people waiting...
Waiting for others...
Waiting for others to see the damage...
The damage change is bringing...

Less police...
Who does that help...
Country with debt more than assets...
Schools that rank down on the scale...
People scared to go out after dark...
People who do not watch the news...
Why...cause the news depresses them...
Silent people are becoming hiding people...

Her America was strong...
Her America was safer...
Her America was not perfect...
Her America was always trying to improve...

Her 11-year-old great-grandchild thinks...
Thinks this is America...
It is America 2022...
But it is not the America Grandma loved...
Not the America that Grandma grew up to love...
Not the America Grandma was raised...
Raised to live in...

The America Grandma was raised in was...
Was the country that people all over...
Over the world respected...
People waited for years to become citizens...
People respected America's laws...
American citizens respected America's laws...

American citizens need to rebuild their values...
It is time...
It is never too late to wake up...
Grandchildren need to know the old America...
They need to live in a safe place...
They deserve to feel safe...
It is up to us to do this for these children...

More About Judge Rembert: WWII made Judge an only child when her half-brother was killed in the war. She lived in a tiny town in South Carolina until she was eight and her Mother went to work. She was sent to a boarding school in Belmont, N.C. From that time on she has lived back and forth in the two Carolinas. They are both home. She was born dyslexic and did not know what the problem was or that it had a name until she was about 45. She was unable to spell so she never put words on paper until she was 65 and had a computer with spell check. She comes from a long line of story tellers and a Mother that taught her much by telling stories. Stories about people and how they faced life and how they dealt with problems. If you read what she writes you may hear her Mother and her Grandmother talking to her. She is thrilled to know that anyone reads her words and finds them interesting. Oh, she is 75 now and she now makes her home in Aiken, S.C. If you like Judge’s writings or would like to comment on them let her know by emailing judgerembert@bellsouth.net.
