I can’t understand how this is good for anyone? Those who run fantasy sport leagues, and are forced to pay these fees, will no doubt pass along these costs to the players. The bill is essentially creating a state tax on fantasy sports. There are only losers from this law; no one wins but the state.
Forgive me if I am a bit rusty on the finer points of the Republican Party, which I believe Rep. Saine claims he is affiliated with, but isn’t economic freedom and lower taxes a pillar of the GOPs fiscally conservative platform? This strikes me as the opposite of what the GOP stands for? In reality it seems like once the GOP takes power, it raises taxes and outspends the democrats at every opportunity.
I also don’t understand why the state even needs this money? As I recall we were running a huge budget surplus, somewhere in the range of $1 billion. One would think our representation in Raleigh would be looking for ways to put this money back in the pockets Lincoln County’s taxpayers, but instead it looks like the greedy piglet that is the state government can’t get enough of our money.
I don’t even play fantasy sports, but I am personally ashamed as a Lincoln County citizen, that Rep. Saine can’t think of something better to do than come up with ways to make some of us give more of our hard earned cash to the government, which it will no doubt waste on something stupid.
I implore you Lincoln County voters, take a look at some of the bills Rep. Saine has been pushing, starting with HB279, do they really make your quality of life better? Does Rep. Saine really represent conservative Lincoln County values? Is he really the best the GOP can put forward?
Remember when you cast your vote in 2018, there will be an actual small government and low taxes candidate for nearly every office on your ballot, the Libertarian party can promise you that.
