Yes, it’s very easy to just live day-to-day without really growing from it. Why? Because when you don’t experience excitement, your mind may start seeing only the doldrums and may stop seeing the daily examples of happy living.
Too much focus on the boring stuff can make you become fatalistic, with eventually the thought of, “We could die any day, so why bother?” True, you could die any day, but since you’re still alive, why not make the most of it, instead of the least?
Our minds can also fool us into thinking only about the mundaneness of our routines and all of the simple things involved with living day-to-day. But, in different ways, our minds do need some of those routines to maintain its grounding.
Routines, at a base level of us being alive, provide stability and give assurances to our comings and goings. If there were never any routines of any type, then we could run the risk of getting stressed out about the lack of continuity.
So, what are some things that you can do to use your routines and day-to-day living for good?
- Breathe – seems pretty obvious, right? But, I promise – if you’ll take a few minutes every day to conscientiously focus on deep breathing, you’ll be more relaxed. Likewise, your mind will be able come up with the answers to questions you’ve been having.
- Be grateful – write down and say aloud those things you are appreciative of today, this week, and this year. This will help you to see how, indeed, the day-to-day parts connect together to form a bigger, more cohesive whole.
- Remain in the present – avoid running away, mentally. Sure, you could go and hide from your thoughts, but it won’t resolve your issues long term, nor will it prepare you for the greatness that is coming to you.
If you are committed, you can enrich your life – no matter where you are or what you’re doing. The subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between fact and fiction. It believes what you program into it.
So, if you program your mind to believe that day-to-day living is a way to cohesively create wholeness and depth, then your mind will start seeing those values, instead of something else less meaningful.
“Day-to-day” is actually a type of glue that holds things together. Therefore, we need day-to-day just as much as we need peaks and valleys. So, enjoy the ride, and enjoy the scenery!
Have a great week!
