Making Personal Progress

Marty Reep, Author
Speaker, Forward-Thinker

Making progress can mean lots of things to lots of people.  Making personal progress addresses the core of the matter that’s important to you.  If you’re going to continuously grow in this life, you have to employ a few things on regular basis: motivation, inspiration, creativity, practical skills, work, and accountability.

In order for those elements to work right, you have to be true to yourself – to be true to your inner callings.  Don’t be afraid of failing.  Or, maybe be afraid of failing, and still do what you have to do, anyway!

Your willingness to continue in the face of obstacles speaks volumes to your tenacity and strength.  You have so much potential to offer the world.  In fact, you’re already living it, every day!  You may not realize it, yet – but, it’s happening.

Making personal progress is a good thing.  Some days, it seems to happen on its own.  Others, it seems like it takes everything in you to make one step forward.  Either way, it’s worth every bit of the effort!

Sure, things can get in the way of our progress or plans.  Sometimes, it’s not our fault.  But, sometimes we do it to ourselves.  When problems arise, maybe they happen because we didn’t plan appropriately or because we didn’t use our time in the best way possible.  No worries.  Fix it, and keep going.

If your car breaks down on the side of the road, you’re not going to get out and abandon it forever, are you?  Well, the same thing applies to the projects and goals your working on.  You’ll have setbacks and breakdowns, once in a while – but not always, and not forever.  Why?  Because, you also have successes, breakthroughs, and achievements!

Some days will be wonderful, fulfilling, and enjoyable.  So, why not make each day that way?  You’re only a mindset away.

Think about what you DO want to achieve; what you DO want to accomplish; and what you DO want to get done.  Go back and look at your original plan.  Do you need to make adjustments or course corrections to you path?  If so, do it.  Then, go make yourself accountable to somebody else.

Make yourself subject to the questions, care, and concerns of a trusted friend or mentor.  They really will ask with good intent about your progress toward your goal.  The intent of this kind of accountability is for your own encouragement and progress.  Yes, there are some out there who only use it to condemn or punish, but that’s not the norm of humanity, thank goodness!

Also, how it’s used with you depends on who you choose to give that power to.  You really are in charge of your time and energy.  Unless you are physically chained to a particular place or situation all day and all night long, you have the freedom to move, to grow, and to change.  And, even for those who are chained – their minds are still theirs to use with their own free will.

So, ultimately, we each have the freedom to make choices, to accomplish, to achieve, and to be accountable in good ways.

Keep on growing, and keep on making personal progress.
