Expanding Your Influence

Marty Reep, Author
Speaker, Forward-Thinker

Is what you do potentially helpful to more people than you are currently reaching? Can the services you provide, or the products you sell, benefit people in more ways than you are currently using?

There is lots of information out there on repurposing content and repurposing things that you already have. In fact, there’s been a growing trend in the area of “repurposing” for a while. If you do a simple search online for things like “upscaling”, “upselling”, or “increasing your sphere of influence”, you’ll find all sorts of lists, tips, and tricks to help you do that.

But, with all that information out there, there are some who are still reluctant to branch out in new ways. Why? Maybe it’s because they still don’t understand how to do it. Maybe…but, I think it has more to do with not realizing the powerful potential they already have or understanding why they would want do it.

Reaching out beyond your current range of influence is a way to leverage your time and influence by helping people in more ways than one. I’m NOT suggesting that you work 24 hours a day or even 7 days a week. What I’m proposing is to think about other ways you can do what you’re already doing.

By looking for different ways to help people or ways to reach people, you’ll be able to put your gifts to work in new areas. Why is that important? It’s important because the realm that got you to where you are, may not be the same one that carries you to your next level of success or influence.

But, if you are willing to adapt, to change for the better, to improve your quality of service, then new successes are yours for the asking. As Mark Victor Hansen says, “You have to A-S-K, to G-E-T.” Yes, it will take work, and it will take time…and the results are worth it.

By offering what you do in unique ways, you will separate yourself from a pack of competitors. You will also distance yourself from an impending onslaught of mediocrity. Many people aren’t willing to try new ways of doing something. Ironically, though, everybody gets excited when new technologies or new methods come out that benefit the world.

The differences in pace among top leaders is minimal. You see the same thing in Olympic races: #1 is only slightly faster or slightly better than #2 or #3. But, the difference between the leaders and middle of the pack can be astounding.

The same thing goes for providing professional services, selling goods, growing your business, or improving your organization. There are ways you can expand what you’re already doing. By tweaking things a little bit here and adjusting other things a little bit there, you can reach more people in ways that are beneficial to them and to you. And, as long as you keep what you do positive, then the return on your investments will be positive, as well.

Also, are you limiting your success by self-inflicted thoughts? Are you talking like your own worst enemy, mentally? If so, then please stop. You are more than that. You have so much more potential than you realize. People need to know what you know. They need to feel what you feel. They need to receive the benefits and blessings of what only you can provide.

When should you start increasing who receives those benefits and blessings? Today would be good, and the people who are in need of those things would probably agree.
