525,600 Minutes

Marty Reep, Author
Speaker, Forward-Thinker

525,600 minutes is a lot of minutes, right? How about 52 weeks? 12 months? Or, 1 year? All of them are the same length of time. But, in looking at the number – 525,600 – it sure seems like a lot more than the others. Either way, it comes down to what we’ve done with the previous quantity and what we’re going to do with the next set.

With each or any of those minutes we can do great things, or we could do awful things. Hopefully, we each use each of those unique moments of time to do amazing things. Those units of time and space are commodities and tools. How we use them reflects our inner demeanor and our outward efforts.

Oh, there’s one important caveat to the seemingly vastness of the quantity: each one has an expiration limit embedded in it. Although it seems like a whole lot, they don’t last forever. Because of the way we currently perceive and comprehend time, we are tied to the understanding that we have one bite at the apple for each minute. Meaning, there are no repeats, no takebacks, and no start overs. It’s just the way it works.

Thus, with that caveat, things get a little more interesting, do they not? Suddenly, each of those little bits (or large bits) of time seem as if they possess vaporizing capabilities, just like Lucy’s hand and face did on the airplane (movie, Lucy, 2014). I’m not saying that each moment of time floats away from us with particles of our being attached – or, maybe I am… But, if they did float away like that, would we want good or bad essence to be attached to those time-released-molecules?

Whatever floats away from us – if it does – thankfully, we have the ability to reflect on that which has gone before us and adjust our future actions to reflect more closely the changes we would like to ensure happen down the road.

Again, 525,600 minutes is a long time, and they with them the incredible potential for us to do great things and to become great people. They represent thousands of potential thank-yous, moments of laughter, hugs, reassuring smiles, or pats on the backs. Singular things, by themselves, may seem small or insignificant, but added together, they have the power to change the world, one person at a time.

For example, if you say thank-you five times a day for the next 365 days, that equates to 1,825 thank-yous. By the end of those expressions of gratitude, you will be a better person. Likewise, if each of those go to different people, you will have improved the mental state and emotional well-being of more than 1,800 people. That’s powerful.

If some of those same people wind up doing the same, because of your initial actions, then the exponential impact will be amazing. Therefore, may the results of your 525,600 be to your credit, after they have all floated away.
