A recent Lincoln Herald opinion column bemoaned the removal of the statue of Robt. E. Lee from its former location in Richmond, Virginia.  Another Confederate statue--one in Gaston County--will be discussed in court this week.

Confederate Monuments Go Down, Maoism Goes Up
This was a sad day for Virginia, for Dixie and for America. The work of famed French sculptor Antonin Mercié, in place on Monument Avenue for 130 years, was long considered one of the finest equine and military-themed statues in the world was taken down.

House Names Enchant Me
What’s more enchanting than a house with a name? I’m talking an official one painted on a swinging shingle out front such as “Wind Knoll” or “Cedar Run” or “Boone Farm.”

One More Remembrance
There were heroes and villains.  The villians were political and religious zealots determined to bring terrorism to the US.  The heroes included the passengers on United Airlines Flight 93, who kept one group of villains from accomplishing a fourth attack and gave their own lives to save others.  Saturday was the 20th anniversary of that day that changed lives forever.

Thoughts on 9/11
This is the 20th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks.  Next Saturday (Sept. 17th) is Constitution Day, an annual celebration of the US Constitution, a document that espouses the dignity of all--including those who are different.  I maintain that the two are very closely related.

Afghan Hordes Pose Real Threat
The enemy is within our gates. Indeed, he’s been there a long time. And America and the West cannot be said to be combatting or even grappling with this problem so much as simply and sadly rolling over and playing dead.

Truckers' Strike An Evident Non-Event
I was out on I-85 several times this week, and traffic flowed along unimpeded. But it got me thinking once again about the real problem, which too many people still fail to grasp.

Amusement Parks Have Their Purpose
I found myself at Tweetsie Railroad recently, watching my four-year-old granddaughter and her parents ride the Tilt-a-Whirl. It was the perfect cap to a day in the park, as a welcome respite from dreadful headlines about Afghanistan and Haiti and COVID.

Vietnam Redux Or Apocalypse Postponed?
We all knew this would happen, didn’t we? Twenty years after three airplanes were hijacked by Mohammedan terrorists... And what to show for it all? More than two trillion dollars down the drain and thousands of military and civilian deaths––all for nothing.

Tillis Blames Biden for Afghan Situation
As Kabul fell to the Taliban and the enemy the US had fought for over two decades could at last claim victory, there was plenty of blame to go around.  As usual, most of Washington (and politicians elsewhere) pounced on the opportunity to bash their political rivals.

Wuhan Clan Continues Its Mad Rampage
A similar funhouse-mirror distortion exists today, with the kung ’flu, a mere insect upon the backdoor screen, being placed in front of a powerful magnifying glass and made to look like some giant monster from a bad 1950’s science-fiction flick.

COVID-19 Update
The COVID-19 'fourth wave' continues to roll over the entire USA. Skeptics and anti-vaxxers continue to deny the figures and argue with the advice of public health officials, and no doubt, they'll call this report 'fear-mongering.' All the same, we have a responsibility to report what based on good sources and solid evidence we believe to be the truth.

Of Dims, Whims, Skims, Flam-Flims & Bad Hymns
