The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for our area--not because of any expected additional precipitation, but because the melting snow may refreeze overnight creating a black ice hazard Friday morning.

Most roads were already clear of snow by Thursday afternoon, but the possibility of refreezing causing hazardous conditions was reason enough for some school systems to alter their Friday schedules.  Here's a list of cancellations and delays we have received.

Lincoln County Schools will operate on a three-hour delay Friday.

Lincoln Charter School (Lincolnton & Denver) will operate on a two-hour delay Friday.

Catawba County Schools will be closed Friday; it will be an optional teacher workday.

Newton-Conover and Hickory City Schools will operate on a three-hour delay Friday.

Gaston County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Friday.

Gaston Day School will operate on a two-hour delay Friday.

Cleveland County Schools will opeate on a two-hour delay for students, one-hour delay for staff on Friday.

The high school basketball playoff games that were scheduled for Tuesday, then moved to Wednesday, etc. are now scheduled for Friday.  You can see the complete list in our Sports section in the CURRENT BASKETBALL PLAYOFF INFORMATION article.
