If all goes as planned, Lincoln County's new courthouse will be ready to use by early 2022.
Lincoln County Purchasing Agent John Henry gave Lincoln County Commissioners an update on the new Lincoln County Courthouse as a part of their meeting Monday night (Feb. 3rd). Bids for the project will be received next month and Commissioners will likely award the contract for construction at their April 6th meeting. The plans have to be approved by the Local Government Commission, but if all goes well, the groundbreaking for the project will be in late May or early June. Construction is then expected to take about a year and a half with completion in late 2021 and occupancy occuring early in 2022.
The current Lincoln County Courthouse was built in 1923. It has served the County for just under a hundred years. Henry said the new facility will have room for some growth and may also last a century. The cost of the project is projected to be about $40 million.
The new courthouse will be directly behind the Lincoln County Health Dept. but it will face northward. A new road will be put in place for an entrance to the courthouse parking area.
No decision has yet been made on the use of the current courthouse once the new one is completed. Some have suggested a museum, others have hinted it might become a second facility for meetings, dinners, etc. that are currently held at the Citizens Center.
