The LFD responded to a Kitchen Fire Wednesday evening (3/26/14) at 802 Catawba Street at approximately 6:40 pm. When LFD Firefighters arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke coming from the front door of the residence. As Firefighters entered the home, they extinguished a fire in the kitchen that had started on the stove and advanced up into the kitchen cabinets. Approximately $2,000 damage
The occupant advised the LFD Investigator that she put a pot of cooking oil on the stove and left it unattended for “no more than 10 minutes”. When she re-entered the kitchen, she said the cooking oil was on fire and the fire had extended up the wall and into the cabinets. She then told all occupants to exit the home and she called 911.
LFD was assisted by the South Fork VFD The Fire was brought under control 11 minutes after the initial dispatch. LFD remained on-scene until 7:40 pm.
