Cherry Blossom Festival Continues
Perfect weather drew record crowd Friday night

A crowd estimated at 10,000-plus enjoyed entertainment, carnival rides and carnival food as well as other activities as the 25th annual Cherry Blossom Festival got underway in downtown Cherryville Friday night (April 25th).

The sponsoring Cherryville Chamber of Commerce elected to provide big time entertainment.  Friday night, Bo Scronce & the Fantastic Shakers played.  For Saturday, the Band Punch will perform from 4 until 8 PM.  DJ Johnny B provided music before the Shakers performance on Friday night.  He'll be doing his radio show on WSGE (91.7 FM) Saturday but WSGE DJ Scott Smith will provide music from 10 AM until the Band Punch plays at 4 PM and during band breaks.

Those who had feared problems with the Beer Garden that was added this year need not have worried.  Many--perhaps most--of those attending the Festival didn't even know it was there (next to the main stage).  Cherryville police were omni-present throughout the downtown area along with Gaston County Police Dept. officers, but there were no incidents.

Today's (Saturday, April 26th) activities include the 16th Annual Antique Car Show 9 AM until 1 PM at the C. Grier Beam Truck Museum, 111 N. Mountain Street.  The event features classic and antique automobiles at least 25-years-old. Trophies for the best entries will be awarded at 12:45 PM.

Also today, the Little Miss Cherry Blossom Festival Pageant will be held at the Community Building at 3 PM and the Cherryville Historical Museum will sponsor an event featuring a Ned Jarrett Race Car.
