The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce held its annual Academic Awards Banquet Tuesday evening (May 26th) at the James W. Warren Citizens Center, honoring the top ten students at each of the four Lincoln County High Schools and presenting scholarship awards to several students.

East Lincoln teacher and football coach Mike Byus was the speaker for the occasion.  He quoted Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" in making points about decisions and leadership.

Byus, the winningest coach in East Lincoln history, having led his players to the state championship game three years in a row and winning the NCHSAA championship in 2012 and 2014, told the audience decisions you make every day have long term consequences.

"Don't let getting what you want right now keep you from getting what you want out of life," he said.

The Tuesday evening event was the 36th annual academic awards program sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
