LINCOLNTON, N.C. – The Lincoln Campus of Lincoln Charter School held their graduation exercises on Saturday, May 27 awarding 45 diplomas to the Class of 2017.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Destiny Hall and the Lincoln Charter School Chorus sang the National Anthem. Samuel Santiago provided the Invocation.

The Senior Address was given by Bailey Sheridan and Kameron Reynolds.

Bailey Sheridan, who has been at the Charter School since her sixth grade, addressed her classmates, faculty and administrators and thanked the teachers and faculty for being their friend and not just teachers.

Senior Kameron Reynolds, who has been at the Charter School for the last four years, also thanked the teachers and faculty for always looking out for the students.  He talked about how they are a family at Lincoln Charter who cry together and celebrate together.

Dave Machado addressed the graduates and encouraged them to "listen to God", follow His plan for their life and to make a difference today.

Johnathan Bryant was the last to address the graduates. He told them that their class is a special class for several reasons: they are the first graduating class of the Lincoln Charter - Lincoln Campus, therefore they hold a special place in the hearts of the staff and faculty and a special place in the history of Lincoln Charter - Lincoln Campus.

He explained that the Lincoln Charter Class of 2017 received 700 cumulative college acceptances, approximately 19 million in scholarship and grant offerings, 36% of the students have been at Lincoln Charter since elementary school, 16% have been there since kindergarten and together they have logged 21,000 service hours.

Bryant kept the atmosphere light and upbeat as he reminisced with the students and he encouraged them to not see this as an ending but as a happy start.

The graduates were given a survey before the end of the year, here are few of the questions and the anonymous answers from the Class of 2017:

What will you miss most about school? Friends, Teachers, Family atmosphere, Basketball games, the relationships with peers and faculty.

What is the strangest advice that your parents have given you that proved to be correct?

  • Gold during the day, homework at night
  • Senior year will fly by
  • Decide if you want to be happy or be right...most of the time you can't be both
  • Don't poke a shoe unless it's leather
  • Keep your mouth shut
  • If you're going to do the time, might as well do the crime
  • Don't eat yellow snow
  • You can't out run the radio
  • Nothing good happens after 2 a.m.

Define "Senioritis"

  • The overwhelming feeling of wanting to be out of high school
  • Me...I am the definition of senioritis
  • Never taking your back pack out of the car
  • Setting your alarm for 7:30 a.m. instead of 6 a.m.

The diplomas were awarded by Jonathan Bryant, Jessica Kelly and John Splain.
