Lincoln County Schools Release 2017 SAT Results

Dr. Sandra Andrews, PIO
Lincoln County Schools

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction released the SAT scores for all North Carolina School districts this week. Participating students in Lincoln County Schools scored an average of 1092 on the combined score of the mathematics and English Reading Writing of the SAT. The average score for the math portion was 546. The average score on the English Reading Writing portion was 547. Due to the transition to a new SAT testing format, the data from this year’s administration cannot be compared with previous years’ testing data. SAT results are based on the most recent scores of students in the class of 2017 who took the new SAT through June 2017.

The number of students taking the SAT in Lincoln County Schools has decreased due to the ACT testing requirement for all high school juniors. The ACT is administered in the spring to juniors at no cost while the cost of the SAT is paid by participating students. Students are electing to use the ACT score instead of paying for the SAT since both the SAT and the ACT are widely accepted assessments of academic readiness for college.

Highlights from Lincoln County Schools' scores include:

  • Lincoln County Schools exceeded the state average SAT combined score of 1074 and the national average score of 1044 by posting an average score of 1092.
  • East Lincoln High School and North Lincoln High School exceeded the state and national average SAT combined, math, and English Reading Writing scores.
  • West Lincoln High School exceeded the state and national for the combined and math scores and exceeded the national average English Reading Writing score.

“We want to commend our schools for improvements in total score, and/or individual tested areas,” said Dr. Lory Morrow, Superintendent of Lincoln County Schools. “We are very proud of the accomplishments that our district has made in all areas. We continue to analyze our data at the school and district levels to improve instruction. Success on college entrance exams, such as the SAT or ACT, doesn’t just happen at the high school level. Student learning is a K-12 effort that begins the first day our students enter kindergarten.”

Listed below are the average total composite scores for Lincoln County, North Carolina, and the nation. For more information, the SAT report for North Carolina can be reviewed at
