LINCOLNTON, N.C. - On Tuesday, September 25 student representatives from each class along with S. Ray Lowder Principal Scott Carpenter and Lincoln County Schools Superintendent Dr. Lory Morrow gathered for a brief ceremony to thank CHS-Lincoln and First Baptist Church for their generous support of the school and its students.

SRL and CHS-Lincoln have had a long partnership and they are now in their third year of partnership with First Baptist Church of Lincolnton.  Together CHS-Lincoln and First Baptist sponsored a school supply drive this year and collected an unbelievable amount of supplies to help teachers and students.  Donations far exceeded everyone’s expectations.  Because of these donations all students found a binder filled with all the necessary supplies to have a successful year on their desk on the first day of school.

In addition to the school supply drive First Baptist is now in their third year of the “Reading Buddies Program.”  First Baptist has seven members who volunteer to read with students weekly for 45 minutes.  The students are individually selected by their teachers.  Each volunteer serves four to five students in their group and each of these students have met their yearly goals for the last two years due to this help.  This past Spring First Baptist also sponsored the school’s field day.  The church planned, organized and monitored the games, they made snow cones, popcorn and loved on the children.  There was an abundance of volunteers and all of the church’s Pastors attended and participated providing support so that parents were able to come and enjoy time with their children.

Carolina Healthcare Systems-Lincoln has been a longtime partner of S. Ray Lowder.  Each year they provide a back to school lunch, purchase books for each student at Christmas time and send staff members to read with each class during the Christmas parties.  They are also huge supporters of the SRL 5K Spring race, providing fresh fruit and sponsoring a team to run.

Dr. Morrow presented First Baptist Church and CHS-Lincoln each with a framed certificate for their generosity and SRL presented each with a banner that was decorated with each students fingerprint.

As Teresa Watson of CHS-Lincoln said, “We are not just supporting a school but our future.  We need each of you to continue school and become doctors, phlebotomist, x-ray techs and more and come work for us at CHS-Lincoln one day.”
