Timken Grant Helps Community Build 2019

Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County
Press Release

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – In January of this year, the Timken Foundation donated a one-time grant of $75,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County. This grant helps make our newest 2019 Community Build possible.

The Community Build is a community-focused and youth-led event to finance and construct an affordable, energy-efficient, and aesthetically appealing Habitat home for a deserving family. Through the support of the Timken Foundation, this year’s build will be led by the fundraising efforts and activities of the affiliate’s High School Habitat Campus Chapters.

In 2016, Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County became the first Habitat affiliate to introduce a high school campus chapter in the Carolinas. Today, we are proud to have active groups at East Lincoln and North Lincoln High Schools. These young people are engaged in the mission of Habitat, participate in meaningful volunteer work, and serve as extensions of the affiliate. Each HS Habitat Campus Chapter has four functions: service, advocacy, fundraising, and education.

The Timken Company has proven it cares for the well-being of Lincoln County residents, and as such, will be the premiere sponsor for our 2019 Community Build with our HS Habitat Campus Chapters leading the charge! Along with the Timken Foundation, the Levine Foundation, Publix Super Markets Charities, and Lincoln County Board of Realtors have also awarded grants to Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County. We broke ground in April and will host volunteer construction days over the next months. Together, we help families build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

About Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County --- Driven by the vision that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live, Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County formed in March 1992. Since then, this affiliate has become a leader in developing decent and affordable housing for low to moderate income families in Lincoln County. Like many rural counties, our county is in a housing affordability crisis, increased by the high cost of substandard and dilapidated rentals, rental overcrowding, and rising rents laced with stagnating incomes. However, Habitat Lincoln County is committed to giving families a “hand up” and working with them to become homeowners. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit www.habitatlcnc.org.
