Asbury Academy Graduation Held May 31

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Asbury Academy held their 2019 Graduation Ceremony on Friday, May 31 at 9:30 a.m. in the common area at the school.

Diplomas were presented to the Seniors who wore the color cap and gown that represented the high school (East Lincoln, Lincolnton, North Lincoln, West Lincoln) they attended in Lincoln County before coming to the Academy.

The Zaxby’s Award of a $500 scholarship was presented to Noah Harris.

The 2019 Graduates are:

  • Chad Cooper
  • Bradley Cothern
  • Andrew Dial
  • Noah Harris
  • Dayton Herman
  • Josh Lovelace
  • Ricky Mashburn
  • Madison Moore
  • Julius Smith
  • Nate Reynolds

Participating in the Ceremony were members of the Lincoln County School Board and the following:

  • Welcome – Dr. Beth Penley, Principal
  • Invocation – Officer Rick Hensley, School Resource Officer
  • Pledge of Allegiance – Teressa Meeks, Classified Employee of the Year
  • Graduation Address – Soloman McAuley
  • Zaxby’s Award – Leah Niles-Redwine, Teacher of the Year
  • Pirate Perseverance Awards – Dr. Beth Penley and Leah Niles-Redwine
  • Commencement – Dr. Beth Penley
A quote by Henry David Thoreau, from the commencement program, encouraged each one of the graduates for their accomplishments while at Asbury Academy.  “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”
