While school in Lincoln County began last week, schools in Gaston, Catawba & Cleveland counties don't open for students until next Monday (August 26th).
The Gaston County Police Chief’s Association will be kicking off an initiative focusing on safe driving practices this Thursday at 10 AM at Robinson Elementary School, 3122 Union Road in Gastonia. Local police chiefs and Gaston County Sheriff Alan Cloninger will be speaking about traffic safety. There will also be a demonstration of a traffic crash simulator.
The program is part of an initiative called Operation BOLO [“Be On the Look Out for our children”] which will last through August 30th.
Operation BOLO’s purpose is to educate residents of Gaston County that school is back in session, make them aware of speeds in school zones and remind them to watch for children getting on and off of school buses as well avoiding distracted driving.
During the first week of school, August 26-30, law enforcement agencies across Gaston County will conduct extra speed enforcement in marked school zones.
