COVID Cases In Schools Declining

Wayne Howard
Staff Writer

The number of new cases of COVID-19 in Lincoln County Schools declined for the third straight week last week. From a high of 142 cases the week of September 13-17, the number of new cases declined to 60 last week.

East Lincoln High School had the most cases last week: 9. Lincolnton High School and Pumpkin Center Intermediate both had 7; Lincolnton Middle School had 6; S. Ray Lowder and West Lincoln Middle had 5. There were 4 cases at Union; 3 at North Lincoln Middle and Pumpkin Center Primary; 2 at Battleground, Norris Childers, and West Lincoln High; and single cases at Rock Springs, North Brook, North Lincoln High, East Lincoln Middle and Iron Station.

Lincoln County Schools became one of five school districts in North Carolina without a mask mandate on September 19th.

In Catawba County, where the mask mandate began on September 2nd and was continued by the school board at its Sept. 27th meeting, there were 59 known positive cases on Friday (Oct. 8th).

Lincoln Charter School, whose mask mandate was also extended on Sept. 27th, had only one positive case at the Lincolnton campus and 13 (11 students and 2 staff members) at the Denver campus last week.
