At a special called meeting Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 23rd), the Lincoln County Board of Education approved the Superintendent’s recommendation that a retention bonus be paid to Lincoln County Schools employees.

Superintendent Dr. Aaron Allen commented: “I feel that it is important to recognize all the contributions our employees have made during this COVID season and to thank them for their continued hard work and focus on providing a high quality educational experience for our community.”

● All full time employees (6-8 hour, classified staff; full-time, certified teachers; and administrators) will receive $1,000 each.
● All part time employees will receive a prorated amount from the $1,000 based on monthly percentage of employment.
● All "daytime" tutors on active payroll will receive a prorated amount from the $1,000 based on monthly percentage of employment. This does not apply to before/after school tutors who are current employees.
● All substitute teachers and substitute child nutrition workers who average at least 12 hours of work (as a substitute) per week from August 23-Dec 22, 2021 will receive $250.
● All substitute teachers and substitute child nutrition workers who average at least 24 hours of work (as a substitute) per week from January 10-June 22, 2022 will receive $500 at the end of June, 2022.
● All substitute bus drivers who are not already fully employed within Lincoln County Schools in another capacity who average at least 10 hours of substitute driving a yellow bus from August 23-December 22, 2021 will receive $300.

This retention bonus will be paid on January 31, 2022 to all employees who are Board of Education approved to be hired as of December 14, 2021 AND maintain their active employment status as of January 28, 2022. This retention bonus has been made available for use from the COVID Relief/ESSERS Funds.

It was the second bit of good news for teachers in the last week.  The General Assembly's 2021-22 state budget, signed into law late last week by Gov. Roy Cooper, provides long needed pay raises effective retroactively to July 1, 2021.  That extra pay won't generally be paid until January, but it's coming!

One School Board member told us Tuesday night, "With all the bad news we've had since this pandemic began, it's good to at last have some good news to report!"
