3/19/2022 4:46:00 PM Commissioners & School Board Talk Budget
Wayne Howard & Kirk Herbertson
Thursday night's joint meeting of the Lincoln County Commissioners and Board of Education lacked the fireworks of the school budget discussion of two years ago. The School Board appeared likely to get everything for which they asked with one possible exception.
Commissioners recently approved giving the schools more money to make up bonus differences that occurred because the General Assemby approved bonuses for teachers and that left a gap between some who are paid fully by the state and some who are paid with county funds. The School Board asked commissioners for money for the coming year to match the bonuses, but there may be some question whether they'll need the amount requested according to commissioners. The schools' budget request will be one of the items discussed when commissioners hold their next budget workshop this Friday (March 25th) at the County Govt. Administration Bldg. on Generals Blvd. That meeting will begin at 10 AM.
