Press Release

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Lincoln County Schools is fortunate to partner with Gaston College to enhance our middle school to high school transition program and activities.  This partnership directly affects all Lincoln County Schools 8th graders.

Gaston College and Lincoln County Schools have come together again to create meaningful experiences for our rising ninth grade students at Gaston College.  This experience included campus and departmental tours, career demonstrations, and program overviews.   Student tours were carried out over a period of two days with two middle schools visiting Gaston College each day.  In order to make these visits productive and student-centered, pre-visit videos and student surveys to counselors and Career Development Coordinators.  These activities allowed students to preview the offerings of Gaston College along with the campus itself, while allowing students to discover and explore their areas of interest. During their visit students were able to tour and interact with Gaston College Instructors at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing, The David Belk Cannon Health Education Institute, along with the Pharr Trade and Industrial Center.

Lincoln County Schools Director of Career and Technical Education, Dr. Cale Sain said, "We were excited to have all of our 8th graders visit Gaston College and expose them to potential college and career paths. There are so many college options for students these days, from transfer pathways, apprenticeships, and CTE pathways, that we take seriously our role in preparing students for post-secondary options. I'm convinced that community college is a great option for many families to consider."

The collaborations between Lincoln County Schools and Gaston College is another perfect example of how we all work together to provide meaningful opportunities for students.  The main purpose of this initiative is to expose students to a variety of career and educational opportunities that are available for them to explore as they prepare to enter high school.
