Many gathered in Downtown Lincolnton Saturday morning to honor our past and present veterans with a parade down Main Street and ceremonies on the courthouse lawn. Veteran’s rode in cars, trucks and golf carts decorated in the red, white and blue. Scout troops marched down the street to honor our veterans as well as the North Lincoln High School “Band of Knights”.

Honored as Lincoln County Veteran of the Year was Retired US Marine – Ray Trevino. Captain Randy Cash, US Navy-Retired was the speaker for the ceremonies.

Veterans Day is an official holiday in the United States honoring our armed service veterans that is observed on November 11. Since the date was on a Sunday this year the parade and ceremonies were held on Saturday, November 10. November 12 will be observed as the federal holiday.

Veteran’s Day coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, with the German signing of the Armistice.)
