On May 14th, an elderly woman died in a head-on collision on the Gastonia Highway.  On Sunday morning, a Lincolnton teen was killed in an accident on North Aspen Street.  On Wednesday afternoon, firefighter Ricky Tallent was pinned in after a wreck in western Lincoln County (his condition was improving on Thursday, by the way).

Also Wednesday, an elderly Dallas couple was injured in a collision at the East Main Street and Salem Church Road intersection.  Shortly after midnight, a 45-year-old man was killed when his truck overturned on the Gastonia Highway.  Add to that the death of an elderly woman injured in a late April accident in Boger City who died the first week of May, and it doesn't take long to see that it's dangerous out there.

Two more accidents occurred in the city of Lincolnton on Thursday (May 21st).  Fortunately, neither of those involved a serious injury.  The first was a bump-up on West Main Street near the Courtsquare.  The second was shortly after 4:30 PM at the intersection of North Grove Street and Bonview Avenue.

Officer Matthews of the Lincolnton Police Department told the Lincoln Herald that a woman was waiting to make a left turn onto Bonview when her car was struck by a truck driven by 71-year-old Bobby Dean Canipe of Killian Road.

Canipe had a load of strawberries on his truck.  He backed up, then told the officer he accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and ran into a telephone pole on the corner.  While he wasn't hurt, the berries left a mess on the road.  The Lincolnton Fire Department spread sand over the roadway.  Canipe's truck was a total loss, but damage to the other car was negligible.

In addition to Lincolnton Police and the Fire Department, Lincoln County EMS also responded, but nobody needed to be transported.
