Man Charged With Stealing From Parent

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – A Lincoln County man has been charged with stealing a Bank of America credit card from his mother and using it to obtain money.
On November 6, 2017 Patricia Gwaltney reported that the card had been taken from her residence. On November 7, 2017 Detective Greg Hager began his investigation and learned that Bank of America had informed Ms. Gwaltney her stolen credit card had been used five times to obtain cash at two banks in Denver.
Michael Edward Gwaltney, 41, who lives with his mother in the 4000 block of Highway 73, admitted to her that he committed the crime.
Detective Hager and Lt. J. Cody located Michael Gwaltney on November 7, 2017 and arrested him on one felony count of larceny of a financial transaction card and five felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. Gwaltney was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and ordered held in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $27,000 secured bond.
He had a first appearance in Lincoln County District Court today, November 8.
