Mount Holly Police say they shot a man Monday (May 14th) after he threatened to kill a child while holding a knife.
Police were called to a disturbance on Park Avenue shortly before 7 PM Monday. Officers arriving on the scene said they encountered a man inside the home holding a knife in one hand and using the other to hold a small child. They said the man threatened to kill the child.
One officer fired a single shot striking the man in the upper leg. The child was removed with no apparent injury. Police took the man into custody and Gaston Emergency Medical Service then transported him to CaroMont Regional Medical Center where he was expected to undergo a psychiatric examination after his wound was treated.
The officer who fired the shot was placed on administrative leave and the SBI was asked to investigate the case.
