Newton Man Attempts To Run, Ends Up In Jail
Monday morning (Dec. 3rd) at approximately 9:45 AM, deputies from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Conover Police Department observed a motor vehicle that was stolen out of Conover.

Deputies pursued the vehicle through Catawba and Burke County with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office providing assistance. The driver of the stolen vehicle subsequently crashed in the 4300 block of Highway 10 west in Newton. He then attempted to hide from deputies after exiting the vehicle but was quickly located without incident.
Benjamin Noah McCann, 25. of 1062 Sunset Street, Newton, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle to Elude Arrest, and Injury to Personal Property.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the vehicle accident and charged McCann additionally with Driving While Impaired, and two counts of Reckless Driving to Endanger. McCann was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Center under $36,500 bond.
