Two Women Arrested For Assaulting Handicapped Man

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - On Monday, March 4, 2019 the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office charged two women with assaulting an individual with a disability.  The charges came after an investigation into an incident that occurred on February 28, 2019 at a group home the man was living at near the 1700 block of Riverview Road in Lincolnton. 

Detectives say the women had problems getting the man to comply when getting off the group home’s van after returning from an activity.  Witnesses told detectives that is when the women struck him several times about his body with a metal broom handle.

According to detectives, the man had several welts and bruising about his body, as well as a large scrap to his knee after falling from being struck. He was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment and released the same day.

Amaya Hope Martin, 20, of Boyd St., Gastonia, NC was charged with one felony count of assault of an individual with a disability and one misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon.  She was arrested in Gastonia and received a $10,000 secured bond.

Casandra Marie Miller, 28, of Union Church Rd., Lincolnton, NC was also charged with one felony count of assault of an individual with a disability and one misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon.  She received a $10,000 secured bond.

Detective Jon Propst investigated the case and was assisted by Adam District Patrol Deputy D. Millerstrom and Civil Division Deputy T. Briggs. According to Detective Propst, both women were suspended immediately from the facility on February 28, 2019 pending the investigation. Both women will have a first appearance on Tuesday March 5, 2019 in Lincoln County.
