More Armed Robberies In Hickory

Since April 2nd, the Hickory Police Department has responded to three separate armed robberies that are believed to have been committed by the same suspect. In each incident the suspect entered the businesses, produced a handgun, ordered employees to open cash drawers or safes and after obtaining money fled on foot.

Locations/dates of latest armed robberies:

  • April 2, 2019 – Cubbard Express – 1130 2nd ST NE, Hickory
  • April 11, 2019 – Speedway – 4431 N Center ST, Hickory
  • April 18, 2019 – Walgreen's – 2915 N Center ST, Hickory

Detailed information on incidents:

Cubbard Express – 1130 2nd St NE
On Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 9:52 PM, the suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money the suspect left the store going toward the Abbey Apartments.The suspect was described as a light-skinned black male wearing a gray hoodie, blue jean pants, and a bandana around his face.

Speedway – 4431 N. Center Street
On Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 10:47 PM, the suspect, described as a dark-skinned, slender-build black male, wearing a black hoodie, khaki pants, gloves and a mask entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money. This stoe was also robbed in January.

Walgreen's – 2915 N. Center Street
On Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 12:13 AM, Hickory Police responded to Walgreens located at 2915 N. Center St. reference an armed robbery. During the robbery, the suspect, described as a tall, thin, black male, wearing a black hoodie, black shoes and a red bandana, entered the store, displayed a handgun and obtained money, then fled on foot.

The Hickory area has been plagued with multiple armed robberies since early September of last year. Many of the descriptions of suspects in those cases were the same or very similar to these latest incidents. Robberies since last September prior to these latest three included:

  • September 4, 2018 –Walgreen's – 2427 Springs Rd. NE, Hickory
  • September 26, 2018 – CVS Pharmacy – 1504 2nd ST NE, Hickory
  • November 3, 2018 – Dollar General – 4796 Riverbend Road, Conover
  • November 5, 2018 – Dollar General – 901 Lenoir Rhyne Blvd. SE, Hickory
  • November 15, 2018 - Zaxby's - 1330 Lenoir Rhyne Blvd. SE, Hickory
  • November 29, 2018 - Blue Crab Skill Fish Games - 1703 Highway 70 SW, Hickory
  • January 17, 2019 - Speedway convenience grocery - 4431 North Center Street, Hickory
  • March 7, 2019 - Salsarita's - 944 2nd Street NE, Hickory
  • March 25, 2019 - Q Express convenience store - 525 4th Street SW, Hickory
