5/30/2019 8:52:00 AM UPDATE: Person Of Interest Found, Being Questioned The Catawba County Sheriff's Office apprehended a man wanted in connection with a Wednesday homicide

Wednesday morning (May 29th) shortly after 9 AM, Catawba County Communications received a call from a person reporting that a co-worker had not shown up for work. The caller requested that a deputy check on the subject at their residence located in the 3000 block of Sigmon Dairy Road in Newton.
Deputies responded to the residence and observed a deceased person inside the residence. Investigators from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office then obtained a search warrant for the residence. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is currently working the death of Emden Lee Syres, Jr. as a homicide.
Deputies sought the public’s assistance in locating a person of interest in the case, Justin Drew Dalton, age 32. Warrants were issued for Dalton for Larceny of a Motor Vehicle in connection with the case. Dalton also had warrants for Child Abuse and Driving While License Revoked out of Alexander County. He was located near Hickory on Thursday night and taken into custody. He was being questioned. An update is likely later Friday.
