Man Returned From South Carolina On Vehicle Theft Charge

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives returned a man to Lincoln County from Laurens County, S.C. to stand trial for a vehicle theft.
Sheriff’s deputies received a report on May 21, 2019 concerning the theft of a motorcycle. The victim told officers he allowed the suspect to make a test drive of a 2006 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle. The suspect left the residence with the motorcycle and never returned.
Warrants were drawn on Michael Edward Gonzales, 25, of Deep Green Drive, Shelby, N.C. for felony larceny of a motor vehicle and the missing motorcycle was entered NCIC. Mr. Gonzales was arrested on June 11, 2019 by the Laurens County, S.C. Sheriff’s Office on a fugitive from justice warrant and was being held for extradition proceedings. Gonzales waived extradition and was picked up July 1, 2019 by Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives. The motorcycle, valued at $3,500, has not been recovered.
Gonzales went before a Lincoln County magistrate and was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
