The Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services was notified since the resident and dog live at the residence. The dog that killed the raccoon was current on its rabies vaccination and was seen on July 5 by a local registered North Carolina Veterinarian to receive a booster. No other animal lives at this residence.
Animal Care and Enforcement completed a neighborhood canvass in the area of Carr Road in Dallas on July 9 to notify the community of the positive rabies result.
The Gaston County Police Department Animal Care and Enforcement unit stresses the importance of having a valid rabies vaccination for all of your pet’s health and safety as well as the health and safety of their owners and community.
This represents the second confirmed rabies case in Gaston County this year.
