NEWTON, N.C. - On July 11, 2019 at approximately 2:20 a.m., a Catawba County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Bethany Church Road and NC Highway 16 South in Newton for a traffic violation.

The operator of the vehicle failed to stop the vehicle, and attempted to get away from the deputy, traveling south on NC Highway 16 continuing onto Coley Fish Pond Road. The operator of the vehicle eventually stopped the vehicle in a driveway in the 2000 block of Coley Fish Pond Road, and then exited the vehicle on foot, attempting to run from deputies.

Catawba County Patrol deputies quickly apprehended the suspect, identified as Juan Moises McDonald, age 34, of 251 21st Street SE Hickory, NC 28602.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect was in possession of several sets of car keys that appeared to belong to a car dealership. Deputies communicated with Newton Police Department Officers and were able to determine that the vehicle tag on the car and the sets of keys were stolen from a business in Newton. Newton Police Department also has pending charges on McDonald as a result.

McDonald was subsequently arrested and taken before a magistrate, where his bond was set at $29,501 secured.

McDonald was charged with: Flee/Elude Arrest With Motor Vehicle; Unauthorized Use Of Motor Vehicle; Fta-Flee/Elude Arrest With Motor Vehicle 2 Agrvtg Fctrs Felony Probation Violation; Fta-Flee/Elude Arrest With Motor Vehicle 2 Agrvtg Fctrs Felony Probation Violation; Non-Support Of Child; Non-Support Of Child.
