Couple Arrested For Vehicle Theft In Eastern Lincoln County

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a Hickory, N.C. man and woman wanted in connection with a vehicle theft from a Denver, N.C. business on July 16, 2019.

Deputies were dispatched to West Lake Imports on N. NC 16 Business Highway in connection with the theft of a gray in color 2013 Audi RS5. The owner told deputies he handed a man the keys to look at the vehicle. He also informed the man that he would need his personal information before he could test drive the vehicle. When the owner went inside the dealership the man fled with the vehicle. He was also followed by a female accomplice in another vehicle.

Detectives developed information and witnesses provided officers with help in identifying the suspects. Follow-up interviews provided detectives with information where the suspects may be located in Hickory. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detectives Greg Hager and Frank Runyon along with Hickory Police Department and North Carolina Probation and Parole went to the apartment today(July 18, 2019) where the suspects and stolen vehicle were located. The suspects were taken into custody.

William Avery Laws, 41, of Hickory, N.C. was charged with one felony count of larceny of a motor vehicle and one felony count of possession of stolen goods in Lincoln County. He also has outstanding warrants in connection with vehicle thefts filed by Hickory Police Department and Lincolnton Police Department and felony probation violation. Bond for the thefts was placed at $125,000 secured. He was placed under a no bond hold for the probation violation.

Ruth Marie Morrow Robinson, 45, also of Hickory, N.C. is charged with one felony count of larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods and one count of conspiracy to commit felony larceny. She was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed under a $5,000 secured bond.
