Lincoln County Sheriff's
Office Press Release

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies are wearing updated uniforms and new bullet proof vests that allow the officers to be more mobile and comfortable.

In the past year the Lincoln County Commissioners approved a new county seal. Since the old seal was the center of the Sheriff’s patch on the uniform, it had to be replaced. Lincoln County Government approved updating the uniform at the same time. The new uniforms feature gray shirts and black pants.

Another change includes deputies wearing vests on the outside of their uniform and not under the shirt. The new vest called “The Molle Gear Vest” has been found by researchers to help officers with a more even distribution of their gear in a safe and healthier manner and improve the officer’s health and quality of life. The old body armor meant that deputies would have to carry some 30 pounds of equipment strapped on their belts causing back and hip issues. The vest allows officers to carry equipment on the torso rather than the waist, which helps relieve stress on the back and hips. While most of the equipment will be on the vest, firearms will still be retained in the belt security holster.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Sgt. J. Little said, “Since switching to an outer carrier, I no longer feel the need to see a chiropractor, nor do I have any back pain. I feel like I have a greater range of motion, and am better able to perform my duties.”

Lincoln County Sheriff Bill Beam said, “Our officers are our number one resource and it’s never a mistake to invest in them.”
