Hickory Police say a man wanted for First Degree Murder surrendered himself Sunday and was jailed without bond. Twenty-three-year-old Jalen “Jakie” Witherspoon is accused in connection with a shooting incident that occurred Thursday (Jan. 23rd).
Thursday evening, police responded to a residence at 941 22nd St NE where they found 23-year-old Andres Osvaldo Moscott’s body in the yard, apparently dead from a gunshot wound. The female who called police identified herself as the victim’s girlfriend. She told officers that after Moscotte left the house, she heard him engaged in a conversation with someone outside. She said she saw a stocky man wearing dark clothing and a dark colored mask covering his mouth and nose speaking to Moscotte. She then heard what sounded like an altercation outside and locked herself in a bedroom. She said she then heard at least two people enter the residence. She waited until they left, the came out of the bedroom and discovered Moscotte lying in the front yard. She also said that Moscotte’s 2006 Black Mercedes Benz ML350 was missing from the driveway. The vehicle was located a short time later as a result of a single car accident in the 1000 block of D Avenue SE.
Police say it appears that the suspect was familiar with the victim and targeted him for a robbery.
