2/2/2020 4:59:00 PM Young Gastonia Woman Charged In Double Fatality Accident

Two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle in the 400 block of East Long Avenue around 2:13 Sunday morning (Feb. 2nd) and have died.
Police say it appears a vehicle traveling west ran up on the sidewalk and struck Charles Henry Love, 61, and Keytiada Cooke, 31, both of Gastonia. Mr. Love died at the scene and Ms. Cooke died at the hospital.
Police have charged Katelyn Brooke Abernathy, 24, of 107 W. Ruby Avenue, Gastonia, with two counts of death by motor vehicle, felony hit/run resulting in a serious injury/death, failure to maintain lane control, DWI and registration plate/card expired.
She was jailed under a quarter million dollar secured bond. The investigation is continuing.
