Shots Fired Into Vehicle During Dispute Over Repair Costs

LINCOLNTON – No one was injured Tuesday (Feb. 4) when shots were fired into an occupied vehicle during a dispute over cost to repair tires.

Deputies were dispatched to 286 Hilltop Road, Lincolnton, NC reference a disturbance involving a firearm. Samuel Tehandon Sanchez told deputies that he had come to the repair shop of Gerald Clifford Cline, 52, to have two tires worked on. There was an argument over the price of the work that escalated into a disagreement. Mr. Sanchez decided to pay and got into the vehicle to retrieve his billfold.

Mr. Sanchez looked out the window and saw Mr. Cline pointing a gun at him. He said he became scared and attempted to leave in the vehicle but was blocked in by a Ford Explorer driven by Wendi Renei Burton. Mr. Cline then fired two shots into the engine compartment of the vehicle disabling it. Following that incident Mr. Sanchez and another person with him moved away from the area and waited on officers to arrive.

Gerald Clifford Cline, 52, of Conover, NC was charged with one felony count of discharging a weapon into occupied property and one misdemeanor count each of false imprisonment, injury to personal property and conspiracy. He was charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.

Wendi Renei Burton, 43, of Conover, NC was charged with common law obstruction of justice, common law false imprisonment and conspiracy. She was jailed under a $15,000 secured bond.

Detective J. Allen and Sgt. O. Calderon and Adam District deputies investigated the incident.
