Catawba County Sheriff's Office Press Release
Friday morning (Feb. 28th) at 8:23 AM , a resident of Deal Road, in the Oxford community of Catawba County, called 9-1-1 to report a robbery. The woman in her late 40’s explained to responding deputies and investigators that she was confronted by an assailant as she approached her mail box. She said the assailant demanded money before instructing her to reenter her home. The assailant then followed her inside while continuing to demand money, eventually leaving on foot after receiving a small amount of currency.
Within an hour after the call was answered, deputies were informed that a person matching a description provided by the woman had been seen at the Lake Lookout Market on Oxford School Road minutes after the incident on Deal Road. That person was identified, located, and is cooperating with Sheriff’s Office investigators. No charges had been filed against him as of late afternoon Friday. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office considers him a person of interest in the investigation.
