The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office has issued a press release updating information on an alleged robbery last Friday (Feb. 28th).
That morning, a resident of Deal Road in the Oxford community reported a robbery. The woman, Melinda Dorrine Yoder, 49, told deputies she was confronted by an assailant as she approached her mail box. She said the man demanded money, followed her inside her home and then left on foot after receiving a small amount of currency.
A black man, Bryan Keith Howell, was questioned in connection with the alleged robbery. As investigators questioned Howell, information he provided cast doubt on the accusations made by Yoder.
After gathering additional evidence, investigators determined the alleged robbery did not occur. Yoder was charged with Felonious Obstruction of Justice. She was placed under a $2,500 unsecured pending a first appearance in district court Tuesday (March 3rd). No charges were filed against Howell.
